Prepare for the Festival


Where in the world is Kawai Purapura?
We are in the heart of 19 acres of tranquil native bush Albany, a nice suburb only 20 minutes from the centre of Auckland. Northern Express buses leave from the city every 10 minutes. The Albany bus station is a 10-minutes-walk from the site. More info here. http://kawaipurapura.co.nz/

How can I get there?
From the city: Northern Express from Auckland City to Albany departs every 10 minutes. The journey is around 25 minutes and costs $6.50 per adult. Albany Bus Station is a 10-minutes-walk away from the Festival.

From the airport: Sky Bus operates regularly between Auckland Airport and Albany Bus Station. You can purchase tickets online, $21 one way, $39 return.

Where can I park?

During the Festival Kawai Purapura is a pedestrian only zone, There’s a large Council parking area on either side at the bottom of our drive. From there it’s an enjoyable 3-minute-walk to the entrance.

When can I arrive and when do I have to leave?
The Festival starts on Thursday afternoon and ends on Sunday night.
If you are camping and you want to set up your tent before the Opening Ceremony, you can arrive from 2 pm and enjoy the grounds.
If you chose other accommodation styles, you don’t need to rush. Feel free come after 4 pm.
If you are a stallholder, you will need to set up in the morning from 10 am to 3pm.
The Opening Ceremony will start at 5 pm.
The Closing Ceremony is at 5 pm on Sunday. When the event is over, you are free to go.
Keep in mind that no cars will be allowed on site during the Festival. If you need any help in packing and unpacking your gear, our awesome volunteers will be happy to help you.



How much is the ticket?
To accommodate all your needs, we give you plenty of options:

Early Bird camping not included (Dec 30th): $160
Tier 1, 4 Days, camping not included (Until 10 February): $190
Tier 2, 4 Days, camping not included (Until 3 March): $220
Gate Sales: $250
Day Pass, no camping: $80
2 Day Pass, no camping: $150
Camping per night: $25
Campervan per night: $25
Marae Style per night: $30

What is included in the ticket?
You will have full access to all classes, talks and performances for the time you booked at the Festival. Accommodation and food are not included.
Can I get a one-day ticket?
Yes, there are tickets available for single days.

Can I purchase passes at the door?
Of course! We strongly encourage you to purchase your passes in advance to avoid delayed entrance, but if you decide last minute, you are more than welcome to come over and buy your ticket on-site. You can pay by cash or credit card, easy!

What is the payment and refund policy?
Tickets are non-refundable. 

What is Genoapay and how does it work?
With Genoapay you can grab your ticket for Yoga Festival and pay for it in equal installments over 10 weeks. Its as easy as 1, 2, 3
Genoapay is a system that allows you to pay for the ticket for Yoga Festival over 10 weeks in equal installments.
1. You need a valid New Zealand mobile phone and debit or credit card to sign up for Genoapay.
2. Once this is completed, email administrationmanager@kawaipurapura.co.nz letting us know that you’re on board with Genoapay, please include your mobile number and the event you’d like tickets for.
3. We’ll phone you to complete the set up and issue your event ticket



Is there anything I can’t bring with me?

Please mind that we are a happy vegetarian alcohol, smoke and drug-free community. Take this opportunity to live healthy and come see how much fun you can have with us!

We also are committed to zero waste, so please be kind to our beautiful nature, collect your rubbish and help us recycle.


What should I bring?

Pack for hot and cold weather, you know New Zealand! Sunscreen, hat, sun glasses, rain jacket are always a good idea. If you stay overnight, take a sleeping bag or blanket with you.

Bring a small backpack or bag to carry your belongings with you.

A reusable water bottle, with this hot summer weather you will want to keep replenishing with from our free water sources.

As there will be food stalls and many other awesome vendors, some cash would be useful.

And don’t forget your mat + any props you may need for practice.

Should I bring my own yoga mat?

Yes, your mat is part of your body. Bring your favorite one and any props you might want to use for your practice.

Will there be a place to store my belongings?

No. Belongings will need to be kept with you. Bringing a backpack or a bag that is comfortable to wear with your belongings in it is the best option.

What if there’s bad weather?

The Festival will happen, rain or shine! If there is inclement weather such as thunder or lightening, we will hold the indoor classes.

So make sure you bring a rain coat, a nice hat and sun protection!

  • Lodging

Where can I sleep?

There are two options for sleeping on-site:

  • Marae-style. It’s a shared sleeping hall where you will sleep with other awesome people like yourself. A mattress, fitted sheets, pillow and pillowcase are provided. Bring your own blanket or sleeping bag.

  • Tent Camping. As we have limited space available, please make sure your tent size is small (max two people).

  • Limited Car/Van camping

Please note that accommodation in Camping and Marae Style are reserved only for full 4-days tickets.

Will water be on-site?

Yes, there will be a water station where you will be able to refill your own bottle as many times as you want.

What kind of food can I find on-site?

At the Festival there will be various kinds of selected food stalls with yummy options, including vegan, raw and gluten free. Also, our amazing in-house chef Shanah will surprise you with her healthy irresistible creativity. Each meal is lovingly prepared with homegrown or locally grown organic ingredients. She uses the freshest ingredients for the tastiest results.

Will there be market stalls?

Yes, you will find lots of colorful market stalls selling handmade and holistic wares.

We feature stalls at the festival with a diverse range of products like soaps, oils, crystals, natural clothing, jewelry and much more. There will also be a number of information stalls from natural healing companies.

Where can I find showers?

You can find showers in the communal bathrooms close to reception. There will be a map showing you where they are. Please be mindful in the use of water.


When will the timetable be released?

Most likely this will happen 3 to 4 weeks before the Festival opens, keep checking back as we are always adding amazing sessions. You can imagine that with the large number of teachers, classes and days, we need to coordinate there can be changes until the last days!


Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes, we have free Wi-Fi on site to make sure that you are always connected and share your experience with your friends and family. But you know what? With all the exciting presenters to choose from, you probably won’t have the time to check your Facebook or your emails. Log off, enjoy nature and have fun.



Is there an age limit?

With plenty of activities for adults and kids, including traditional ceremonies, wisdom talks, classes, concerts, dance performances, meditation and much more, you are welcome no matter your age. It’s always a good time to tune in with yourself and with like-minded souls. Click here to check out our line up



Can I bring my children?

Of course! We love to share this joyful festival with children and inspire the new generations to live happy and mindful. Kids 16 and under are free and can attend any event. The youngest are welcome accompanied by a ticket-holding adult, we trust you will be mindful of other people around you in terms of disruption.

Also, we have special activities for children, including playful time to connect with nature, dance, fairies, storytelling, parent and child partner yoga, drumming, making friends with horses, macramé, meditation and yoga.

Do children need to pay?

Kids 16 and under are free and can attend any event. The youngest are welcome accompanied by a ticket-holding adult, we trust you will be mindful of other people around you in terms of disruption.

What daytime activities will be available for my children?

There will be plenty of fun activities to keep your kids busy such as playful time to connect with nature, dance, laughter yoga, storytelling, drumming, making friends with horses, meditation and yoga. They will love it.

And, guess what? Children under 16 enter for free!

Can I bring my pet?

No, please be kind to the Festival and to your pets and leave them at home.


I’m coming alone, is that OK?

Do I have to book the workshop in advance?

No.  Workshops are first come first serve.

Can I take photos or videos?

Yes, you can! Feel free to take photos of the venues and our beautiful settings, make selfies of you and your friends and share them on Facebook and Instagram. Remember to check-in at Yoga Festivals Social Media and tag us. (Hashtag)


Keep in mind that in accordance with New Zealand Law, we may take and/or publish photos or film “of people where there is no expectation of privacy, such as a beach, shopping mall, park or other public place.”

What styles of yoga will be taught?

Every year we have more than 100 hours of yoga and meditation classes. We have every style and maybe even some you haven’t heard of, like chocolate yoga!  Challenge yourself and try something out of your normal yoga zone.

I’ve never done yoga before, is that OK?

Yes, there are classes for every level, and even if you don’t want to do the physical practice the vibes are amazing.

I’ve never been to a yoga festival, what can I expect?

A yoga festival can be overwhelming, if you have never done it before so the keyword is moderation. Be sure to not only go for the physical practice, take in a wisdom talk or relax by the kirtan stage. Pick out your favorites as it is impossible to do everything!



Which kind of market stalls can join the Festival?

We are featuring stalls at the Festival with a diverse range of products ranging from soaps to crystals to yoga gear, and much more. Also, there will be a number of information stalls from natural healing companies. Click here to learn more.

How can I help?

What do I bring?

Make sure you have with you: reusable water bottle, Yoga mat, mobile phone for contact, torch (if you can’t use your mobile phone), sun protection – hat, sunscreen, comfortable clothing and shoes, raincoat, tent and sleeping gear if you are confirmed as camping.


So how does this volunteering work?

As volunteer, we ask for three 6-hour days, and here’s what you get in return:

• A weekend ticket with full access to the Festival

•A camping ticket to stay on the festival grounds

•Daily delicious breakfast and dinner

•An opportunity to be amongst like-minded souls

•Valuable experience in working on events

A sense of priding knowing you helped make our festival even better!


Is there a volunteer introduction meeting?

Yes, Wednesday 20th February in the afternoon. Please head to reception and ask for directions.


Where do I park when I get there?

We have a large council car park at the main entrance gate on Mills Lane.


Can I sleep in my car?

Sure, you are welcome to sleep in your vehicle! However, keep in mind that as we will not be having any vehicles on the grounds, you will need to have your van parked in our council carpark (which is located at the entrance of our main gate). Just means a little more of a walk to the amenities.
